Yoga4Recovery offers a mind and body approach for relapse prevention. Using the cognitive tools of the 12-steps and the somatic experience of yoga, Yoga4Recovery assists people to develop body awareness, to learn to feel what’s going on in their bodies, and to self-regulate.
The 12-step recovery model, created in 1939, is the most well-known and pervasive addiction/recovery program in the world with millions of practitioners internationally.
In a word, the characteristics and effects of addiction could easily be described as separation. Addictive behaviors separate and disconnect us from our loved ones, our environment, ourselves and so much more. Conversely, yoga itself means union, integration and balance. Yoga and its practices teach the fine art of balancing our multidimensional lives while living in a complex world. The 12-step program approaches addiction at a cognitive level, yoga includes a somatic approach. The combining of the two creates a model that truly addresses addiction as the physical, mental and spiritual disease that it is. Yoga4Recovery recognizes that yoga and its practices are a part of a holistic recovery program and rather than a replacement, it provides adjunct tools to address the physical, mental and spiritual disease of addiction.
Yoga4Recovery is a community organizing platform that provides a rich and powerful framework for integrating the wisdom of yoga and the practical tools of 12-step programs. Guided by it’s theme ‘The Issues Live In the Tissues”, Yoga4Recovery meetings are now available all over country and the curriculum is quickly becoming a feature of addiction recovery treatment centers across the United States.
Yoga4Recovery is a meeting and a yoga practice. The time is divided between a 12-step like sharing circle and a yoga session where we “take it to the mats.”
Yoga4Recovery can be done using a yoga mat, a yoga block, or using a chair for those who are more comfortable seated. Meeting topics can come from the sharing circle or if no topic organically develops, the space holder may suggest a reading. Simple yoga postures and breathing exercises will be practiced each meeting.

Sarah is attentive, knowledgeable and delightful during our sessions. She is excellent at moving clients out of their heads and into their hearts. She uniquely combines yoga, energy work, meditation and life coaching to channel the mind and body out of flight or fight mode and into a deep state of relaxation. We have been working together for a year now~I am currently off all prescribed medications and my blood pressure is the lowest it has been in years! Sarah has helped me to unplug, recharge and step back into my power. Making and honoring the commitment to this deep level of self-work is one of the greatest gifts I have given to myself!
So appreciate Sarah as she has worked with me with the power of Reiki and physical touch to facilitate healing both physical and emotional challenges.
Her intuitive guidance shows up in the form of angels and allows her healing to be more pinpointed and free of human static. Grateful!
Sarah, thank you so much again for an amazing weekend! You were right, I was most definitely activated.I just had a really good and honest conversation about my dad pretty much recapping everything we worked on over the last two days. I think I’m starting to mend some of the wounding I’ve experienced with him over these past 8 or so months. He would have loved the retreat.
He reminds me a lot of Michael actually. We talked about living with love, helping people, and being aware of the synchronicity that we experience in our daily lives. I know he loves me and my heart feels so much more love for him, you, myself, and my life.
We both agreed that everything happens for a reason and at the end of the day all we are left with is our choices.
Thanks so much again.
Much love ❤️ D. Wesley
I learn from you every time I’m with you. You’re a role model for making good choices and following them up with the right actions so you can stay on your desired path. I so admire your self-awareness and perseverance. It keeps you centered in the middle of the road, regardless of circumstances or emotions. You have the tools to keep coming back to a place of peace and contentment, and you use them well. You know what to do, you do it, and you have a genuine desire to pass it on to others.
I’m honored to share this journey with you, my friend. Sharing our experiences and learnings is how we all grow better together.
Sarah has helped me tremendously this year. She has guided me through a tough time and helped me be able to create a vision and be content on where I am right now. I would highly recommend her if you are looking for clarity or guidance in your life.
I want to commend to you the work of Sarah Maslia Galambos with the Fall Health Fest that was held on October 14 at the North Springs Church Pumpkin Patch.
It was a great event, and drew at least 350? persons (maybe more)! As the host site, I was amazed at the well organized, planned and executed festival. Folks were obviously having a good time.
This council is such an addition to our community ethos of Sandy Springs as a healthy and wholesome place to live. And Sarah is an innovative leader of the group. Thank you for your support that enables this good work in the community.
Grace and peace, Sara
